Arizona Specific Information

The Commissioner issued a Policy Statement effective February 8, 2008 that no waiver's will be granted for the mandated ninety-classroom hours for the Real Estate Salesperson or Broker Pre-Licensure curriculum. As a result the following information regarding the Arizona State Specific course is no longer applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. I am already licensed in another state. Does Arizona offer any consideration?
Some of the areas that the Arizona Department of Real Estate considers are: How many hours of class time did you have to take in order to receive your license in the State from which you are coming? In the State of Arizona, the educational requirement is 90 hours of class time. For example, if you are coming from a state that requires 45 hours of class time, you will most likely be required to take a minimum of 45 hours in the State of Arizona.

It is also important to note that everyone, in order to obtain a license in the State of Arizona, MUST take 27 hours of Arizona State Specifics.

In addition, everyone must pass both the general and state portions of the school exam and the Arizona State exam.

2. What are some of the most common questions the Arizona Department of Real Estate will ask when applying for waiver?

How long has it been since you took your state exam?
The Arizona Department of Real Estate
will only offer a waiver to licensees who have taken their state exam within the last five years, and if the state in which the licensee tested has the state exam broken down into two parts - General/National and State. For example, the State of California does not break down their exam into two parts, therefore, the State of Arizona will not provide a waiver of the General/National portion of the exam.

When you originally received your license, was your educational training in a classroom or did you obtain your license via distance learning?
Arizona requires pre-licensure education in a classroom setting. If you received your license via distance learning, the Arizona Department of Real Estate will probably require the 90-hour program of class time.

3. How much does our Arizona State-Specific course cost?

The tuition is as low as $160, depending on the location selected, for licensees who have been waived the 90-hour licensing course and only require the Arizona State specific course.  You will also need to purchase the textbook; Principles of Real Estate for $37.00, plus sales tax.

Do not forget, however, the Arizona Department of Real Estate generally, requires each licensee to pass both the National and State portions of the school exam. Therefore, we recommend that you also obtain our self-study examination preparation book for a fee of $30.00.
